TOM HUCKABEE

I got serious about photography in 1997 after acquiring my first digital camera. I took it everywhere and shot everything in sight, often to the chagrin of family, friends and strangers. No subject was too insignificant, sacred or profane. This indiscriminate behavior stopped the day I spotted a tiny pepper blossom floating in a friend’s swimming pool. After flicking on the macro and clicking the shutter, I checked the results on my computer screen and was amazed at what I saw. I rushed back into the garden, gathering flowers, tossing them in the pool and shooting, shooting, shooting until there was no sunlight left. Since then, I have taken over fifteen thousand pictures with the same basic ingredients: flora, water, close-up lens. I’ve learned over time that just about any human experience or emotion or experience can be evoked through this process. Recently, I’ve been considering the notion that water isn’t essential to the recipe.
